Participation of julich in water festival ucn - ceitsaza

Prof. Dr. Roland Bol (from Research Center Jülich, Germany) present at the Water Festival event, part of the week of water activities in Antofagasta, Chile, during March 18 th and 22 th , 2019. During the event, Prof. Dr. Bol had the opportunity to talk to students, members of government agencies and the general public, besides visiting the other stands of the water festival.

The research center Jülich, through Prof. Dr. Roland Bol, also participates as an associate in the CONICYT project “Co-creation and value enhancement of scientific tourism routes and experiences focused on the evolution and limits of life under conditions of extreme aridity, to promote social innovation in the Antofagasta region”.

On this occasion, the community outreach point was set up to showcase their new scientific underpinned tourism routes. These new routes explore the delicate but fragile water and interlinked life cycles, both the unique driest desert in the world (the nearby Atacama), and if possible the even more subtle role of water in the coastal sectors where the mere presence of occasional fog favours the formation and continued existence of an ecosystem unique in the world.

PROJECT WANTS TO TEACH SCIENCE THROUGH TOURISM

The initiative is in the testing phase of places and training of the work team. In March of the year 2019, the first tourist-scientific route would come out.
